Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Metin, faculty member of the Department of Islamic History and Arts of our faculty, completed his studies at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in Paris between 16 October 2023 and 15 October 2024 within the scope of TÜBİTAK-2219 Postdoctoral Research Abroad Programme and started his duty.
In the research, which lasted for about a year under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thierry Zarcone, Director of CNRS-GSRL, the changing perception of the Prophet Muhammad throughout history was discussed by bringing together biographical works and similar independent books written about the Prophet Muhammad in Old French and French literature, starting from Latin sources from the 9th century to the present day. Approximately two hundred individual works, some of them manuscripts, were evaluated in the researches conducted in libraries in Paris and nearby cities, especially in the National Library of France BnF (Bibliothèque nationale de France) and INALCO (l'Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales/National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations). Within the scope of the study and project, six international papers were presented in Paris, Rome and Tashkent and the book entitled ‘Biographies of the Prophet Muhammad in French’ is about to be completed.
